Dell XPS M1210 / Inspiron 740M

OK I got a new notebook. Dell advertise the notebook as "Small with Big Attitude" and I have to agree! The Dell XPS M1210 is a small notebook -- 12.1" LCD display only but it is packed with features and functions that one can find in a much wider and bigger notebook. I decided to pull the trigger on July 17th. Dell shipped the notebook using DHL ground service on July 20 then the notebook arrived to my house on 24th of July. That was fast!

The way Dell boxed this notebook is different from what others. This notebook is not in a black "XPS" box and it didn't came with 2 black box. HEH! It shouldn't be a big deal but I do wonder why different boxing?
So here is how it is boxed:

Let me show you the M1210 set that I received:

Those items are:

  1. The XPS M1210 powered by Intel Core Duo T2500. The screen is made by AUO. The device manager show it is AUO3214. As you can see, the M1210 that I purchased includes Audio/Video package (built-in webcam and microphone by Logitech). It has 1GB/667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2 dimms), DVD+/-RW, Dell 350 Wireless Bluetooth, 80GB (5400RPM) Hard drive, 9-cell battery (85W), Intel Pro Wireless 3945, Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400.
  2. Audio/Video Component/SPDIF cable (it's free from Dell. At least in my location)
  3. XPS Pouch
  4. XPS CD case
  5. Ear Phone with extra ear buds
  6. 65W Power Adapter
  7. 8 software CD (XP Home, MediaDirect, Roxio, Logitech, Creative Audigy, XPS M1210 system drivers, Sonic, Media Experience)
  8. Product Information Guide, XPS Owner's Manual, CompleteCover Guard Agreement and Shipping invoice
The above M1210 set costs $1,721.95 (free shipping. no tax was charge). I opted for 3 years XPS Premier Service and 3 years CompleteCover Guard.

  1. The XPS Premier Service - 3 years Next Business Day, 3 years 24x7 Phone Support, 3 years Parts and Labour warranty.
  2. The CompleteCover Guard - 3 years CompleteCover and 3 years CompleteCover Guard. That is also known as "Accidental" protection and "Theft" protection. I am guessing that Dell is using the software or service of Computrace for the theft protection for this notebook that I have because I noticed in the shipping invoice this information: MOD, INFO, COMPUTRACE
I google the keyword Computrace and it is a tracking service by Absolute Software (http://www.absolute.com/). I will ask the Dell Tech Support on Monday about it because I want to know more or I need a confirmation whether that is the service that they are using for my CompleteCover Guard purchase.

More pictures below then on my next blog entry, I will post my own personal thoughts on Dell XPS M1210. Am I a happy owner of M1210? Is the LCD display nice? Does it play nice? What I expect and didn't expect with Dell M1210? I will also add more pictures on next blog entry in addition to my "this and that" on XPS M1210.

Oh BTW, I did not know that XPS M1210 is also known as Inspiron 740M. I just found that info in the Shipping invoice. It says: MOD-SRV, SW, INSP, 740M/M1210

Heh, cool! Very useful blog man, respect!!! And BTW cool photos too, I was looking for some real photos of XPS as I want to buy one by my self, so happy to find them here! Thanx! Very useful. But still I'm thinking on getting one without AV package (too expensive here for me in Russia) :(
